GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTIONTiffin University invites applications for the position of Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator participates in activities and efforts to build and sustain a safe and equitable campus that is free from discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual harassment, pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related conditions), national origin, age, genetic information, sexual orientation or gender identity/expression, disability, status as a protected veteran, or any other status protected by university policy or local, state, or federal law. This includes investigating alleged violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will report to the Director of Prevention Education & Deputy Title IX Coordinator, based at the main campus in Tiffin, Ohio. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will conduct initial reviews and complete investigations involving faculty, staff, and students at Tiffin University. This process will include performing a preliminary review of the complaint, making determinations concerning the necessity of a formal investigation, interviewing relevant individuals, and reviewing documents or other evidence. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will work as a member of a talented and collaborative team that fosters a university-wide culture characterized by equity and inclusion, along with an investigation process rooted in equity, fairness, and respect. Requirements:MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Deputy Title IX Coordinator will investigate and report sexual misconduct and discrimination incidents on Tiffin University's campus. The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will work to strengthen the university's culture by supporting an academic and work environment where its students, faculty, and staff can thrive free from discrimination or sex-based harassment.Work to implement and monitor the university's response to discrimination and/or sex-based harassment incident reports related to Title IX.Receive incident reports of discrimination and/or sex-based harassment, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, sex-based stalking, and discrimination based on a protected class, and respond appropriately.Exercise independent judgment regarding the response and resolution of incident reports.Facilitate, within specific time constraints, alternative resolutions of Office of Equity, Access, and Opportunity formal complaints. Document efforts during and after an alternative resolution.Apply university policy by, among other things, conducting a prompt, equitable, and impartial investigation into formal complaints, including identifying and interviewing parties and identifying, gathering, and assessing information relevant to the investigation.Complete a preliminary and final report for formal investigation. Review written reports of other Office of Equity, Access, and Opportunity staff.Provide regular updates to the Office of Equity, Access, and Opportunity team about the case management approach, status, and progress.Maintain accurate and thorough investigatory records and reports in all cases, including finding(s), within the case management systems.Participate in administrative hearings - present evidence and procedural steps and answer questions about the investigation process.Prepare materials for, assist with, and participate in appeals for discrimination cases, as necessary.Prepare materials for appeals in sexual misconduct cases.Serve as a subject matter expert on equity and diversity matters and related policies and procedures.Actively foster and maintain a climate that values diversity, equity, and inclusion for everyone on campus.Collaborate with multi-disciplinary university offices and personnel to inform university students, faculty, and staff.Assist the University in complying with obligations under Titles VI, VII, IX, VAWA/SaVE, and related laws, including FERPA and the Clery Act.Collaborate with and maintain strong relationships with campus safety and security and community resources related to Tiffin University.Serves as the first point of contact for Title IX & Civil Rights reports.Assist the Title IX Coordinator/Deputy Coordinator in scheduling and conducting prompt, equitable, and impartial supportive measures/preliminary assessment meetings in response to complaints of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-related violence, including stalking and intimate partner violence, and protected class discrimination, harassment, and related retaliation. Prepare timely and accurate preliminary assessment summary reports for the Title IX Coordinator/Deputy Coordinator to review by the Title IX & Civil Rights Policy. Assess the need for supportive measures upon receiving a Title IX & Civil Rights report and determine reasonable and appropriate supportive measures to ensure equal access to the University's educational programs. Coordinate the implementation of supportive measures for all parties, including Complainants and Respondents, during the preliminary assessment, formal grievance process, and informal resolution process. Assist with conducting formal investigations into complaints and informal resolutions.Assist in case management, including case file organization, case correspondence, data tracking, and weekly data reports.Collaborate and consult with internal and external partners, including legal counsel, investigators, neighboring institutions, advocates/advocacy centers, and law enforcement. Assist with data collection and reporting for yearly reports such as Clery and Ohio Department of Higher Education's Changing Campus Culture Report. Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES FOR THE JOB Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree.Demonstrated excellence in writing and analysis and ability to spot issues and apply facts to policy.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to respond effectively to competing deadlines and workflows.Evidence of effective spoken, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening, respect, and approachability.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, administrators, community partners, and law enforcement agencies.Preferred QualificationsProfessional experience working with topics related to discrimination and/or sexual misconduct.Professional experience investigating claims, collecting information and evidence, conducting interviews, and summarizing in writing the information collected.Experience with case management and/or case management databases, including Maxient.Demonstrated ability to maintain neutrality in collecting and reviewing information related to allegations of sexual misconduct and discrimination.Professional experience in mediation and/or conflict resolutionKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to foster and maintain a positive environment supporting students and respecting differences.Ability to practice effective spoken, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening, respect, and approachability.Knowledge of Titles VI, VII, IX, VAWA/SaVE, ADA, ADEA, FERPA, and the Clery Act.Ability to use independent judgment and manage confidential information.Ability to analyze information, identify issues, apply facts to policy, and write coherently and effectively.Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to respond effectively to competing deadlines and workflows.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents, including students, staff, faculty, administrators, community partners, and law enforcement agencies.Ability to provide adequate and appropriate recommendations and expertise at all levels within the University community.Ability to build and maintain trusting and positive relationships.TIFFIN UNIVERSITY SPONSORED BENEFITSTiffin University offers excellent benefits.
